Harnessing the Oceans Economy for a Resilient Future: Northern Cape Oceans Economy Symposium

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism successfully hosted the Northern Cape Oceans Economy Symposium in October 2024 to celebrate Marine Month. The symposium, held under the theme “Harnessing and Transforming the Oceans Economy for a Resilient Future of the Northern Cape Province,” brought together key stakeholders, industry experts, and government representatives to discuss the untapped potential of the ocean economy in driving sustainable development and economic growth.

The symposium highlighted the critical role of the ocean economy in diversifying the Northern Cape’s economic landscape. With its extensive coastline and rich marine resources, the province has significant opportunities to leverage fisheries, aquaculture, marine tourism, and renewable energy sectors. Discussions centered on strategies to unlock these opportunities and ensure they contribute to job creation, skills development, and long-term economic resilience.
