In his keynote speech, President Ramaphosa emphasised women's invaluable role in shaping South Africa's future. He also highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by women in the country, including gender-based violence, unemployment, and poverty. The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating efforts towards women’s empowerment, signalling a united front in addressing these critical issues. A pivotal moment during the event was the signing of an anti-gender-based violence pledge, a joint effort by the government and civil society to reignite the fight for women's rights in South Africa. This symbolic act underscored the collective responsibility to protect and uplift women, ensuring their safety, dignity, and full participation in society. The Department of Economic Development and Tourism remains dedicated to supporting these efforts, continuously working towards creating opportunities and providing resources that empower women in every community we serve. National Women's Day 2024 was a powerful reminder of how far we have come and the work to achieve true gender equality in South Africa. |
