Members of the media are invited to join the Premier, Ms Hazel Jenkins and her Provincial Cabinet as the Bloodhound project gains momentum with the commencement of the track preparation. The official launch of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) for the track preparation of the Bloodhound Project which is a World land speed record attempt scheduled to take place in 2012 kicks off in Hakskeenpan.
The target for the Bloodhound Project is to get as close as possible to 1600 kph and exceed that figure if they can. The project also aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by showcasing it to them in the most exciting way possible by building a car which is capable of reaching 1600 kph.jordan Release Dates
With the full backing of the Northern Cape Provincial Government, Andy Green, the current world land speed record holder, identified and confirmed Hakskeen Pan in the Mier municipal area as the site of choice for the groundbreaking attempt at establishing a new land speed record. The Provincial Government has endorsed the hosting of the event as it fits in with Provinces extreme sport objectives.
The track preparation is a joint partnership between the Departments of Roads and Public Works, Economic Development and Tourism, the Northern Cape Tourism Authority, the Siyanda District Municipality and the Mier Municipality. A total of 315 members of the public from the Mier municipal area has been identified to start with the removal of stones and pebbles on the proposed track. Work on the track will take between 100-120 days. In attendance will be various Mayors and community leaders as well as the South African representative of the Bloodhound Project, Mr. Rudy Riek.
