The multi-million rand  Provincial Archives Repository is situated on the corner of Silson and  Green Street towards the Legislature Complex in Kimberley. It is  scheduled to be officially opened by Premier Sylvia Lucas together with  the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Pauline Williams.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The  Repository will provide for acquisition, preservation and documentation  of public and non- public records. This vital resource will also enable  citizens to monitor the activities of Government thus holding government  accountable for its actions. It will further play a critical role in  ensuring social cohesion and nation-building by enabling the  preservation of all histories and stories of the people of the Northern  Cape both present and past for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>With the opening of the  first University in the Northern Cape, the Department believes that  services to be offered by the Provincial Archives Repository will  greatly enhance the capability of the province to offer additional  research facility and a platform for outreach services such as  historical awareness campaigns and oral history projects. The Repository  will also provide a rightful home for the Northern Cape Heritage.
