The strengthening of social cohesion in our communities is undoubtedly high on our agenda especially this time around where we are focusing our attention on dealing with the scourges of crime across the province.

The Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy is a relevant tool, based on the challenges faced by society today. It also gives all of our key stakeholders an opportunity to integrate in the fight against crime. The implementation of this strategy requires a formalised multi-agency approach towards integrated planning and an on-going research to enable us to realise our objectives.

We will continue to deepen our social crime prevention initiatives; tighten the content of our community mobilisation and messaging.

These incidents happen against the backdrop of the important gains we have made in fighting other forms of crime. Whilst we commended the good work done by the department and our partners against crime such as the South African Police Services, Community Police Forum, Youth Against Crime, Women Against Crime,

Business against Crime, Neighbourhood watches, Street Communities and Municipalities, etc.

The Northern Cape Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy (PCPS), based on the principles of the National Crime Prevention Strategy, addresses these unique safety challenges of the Northern Cape which commonly relates to violence caused by the excessive use of alcohol and drug abuse.

Our department remains committed to these 6 outputs, namely:

Reduction in violent crimes

Reduction in crimes against women and children

Crime perception management

Effectiveness and integration of the criminal justice system

Reduction in corruption, and

Reduction in road fatalities

We call on all our partners in the public sector, communities and business to partner in the continued fight against crime in the Province as we gear-up to the official launch.

Expected to attend the launch is the Honourable Premier for Northern Cape, Mme Sylvia Lucas, MEC’s and all role players in the fight against crime.

Issued by: Lebogang Majaha

Ministerial Spokesperson

Transport, Safety and Liaison

Northern Cape Province

Department geared-up to launch the Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy.
