The Northern Cape prides itself for being one of the only provinces in the country that had three female Premiers in succession. As we draw close to the end of August, which is celebrated as “Women’s Month” in the South African calendar, we must take stock of the achievements of women and how the ANC-led government has responded to the ideal of women empowerment.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government is committed to delivering high standards of services to the people of the province in a professional and accountable manner. In 2012 we made a commitment to the people of the province to improve on audit outcomes to demonstrate our seriousness on accountability after only 40% of departments received unqualified audit opinions.

The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Honourable Mac Jack will be launching the Northern Cape Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy on the 12th September 2013 in Batlharos, John Taolo Gaetsewe region.
Today marked the 57th Anniversary of the 1956 Women’s Anti-pass march. On this day in 1956, more than 20 000 women marched against the discriminatory pass laws which had restricted the movement of black people in the country.

The Northern Cape Premier Ms Silvia Lucas will advance the empowerment of women, by honouring the best Female Entrepreneurs for their outstanding role in agriculture’s economic sector and the promotion of household food security. Premier Lucas together with the MEC for Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Mr Norman Shushu will confer the honours at the gala awards ceremony in Port Nolloth, Namakwa District on 07th August 2013.

The month of August was declared Women’s month by the democratically elected government of South Africa following a series of political activism by women during the struggle for liberation.
The current administration under the stewardship of President JZ Zuma made a profound commitment to the people of the Northern Cape that the main focus of this current term of the administration is to establish a university in the province. On Thursday 25 July 2013 the President announced the name of the university and the interim council. The university in the Northern Cape will be named Sol Plaatje University.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government heeded the call by the United Nations to celebrate International Mandela day. On Mandela day individuals are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something to improve the lives of others.
