This engagement is the most strategic session of the Provincial Cabinet and has in attendance the Acting Premier and all MEC’s, their Heads of Department (HODs), District Mayors, and Regional Heads of National Departments as well as the Chairperson of SALGA in the Province.

The meeting, which will provide the basis for the State of the Province Address on the 1st March 2013, will translate the ruling party’s priorities into the Government’s programme of Action for the next year.

The Extended Executive Council Lekgotla is also expected to do an assessment of government’s performance on the five national priorities – job creation, health, education, crime eradication, rural development and land reform – with a view to improving and enhancing performance in 2013. The meeting will also look at ways of aligning the Provincial priorities to the National Development Plan 2030.

The Lekgotla is also expected to assess the global and domestic economic outlook with a view of identifying new opportunities and risks for the Province.

Critical to the Lekgotla discussions will be the provincial response to the President, Mr Jacob Zuma’s, call of job creation and how the Province stands to benefit from the Strategic Infrastructure Programme (SIP).
In addition, the provincial government will also look at the 2011 Census results and the impact this has on the Provincial growth and development plans.

The Acting Premier, Ms Grizelda Cjiekella will close the Lekgotla with the adoption of the resolutions.
