Key Strategic Priorities Job First Approach Job creation was highlighted as the central pillar guiding all departmental programmes and interventions. The Northern Cape Jobs Plan, together with the forthcoming Jobs Summit, will anchor efforts toward economic diversification, inclusive growth, and sustainable employment across sectors. Tourism as a Catalyst for Growth Tourism was emphasised as a strategic growth engine for the province. Flagship initiatives such as the Diamonds & Dorings Kimberley Big Hole Marathon were showcased as examples of tourism-led investment, destination marketing, and local economic development. Innovation, Governance, and Accountability The Department is committed to strengthening clean governance, enforcing consequence management, and embracing innovation through the establishment of a Socio-Economic Intelligence Centre, which will enhance data-driven planning, improve decision-making, and ensure accountability in delivering impactful economic outcomes. One Shared Mission The session reinforced the mission to build a resilient, inclusive, and modern Northern Cape economy that creates opportunities, stimulates investment, and restores dignity to communities across the province. MEC Blennies-Magage concluded with a powerful call to action: “We cannot wait for opportunity to knock it is our responsibility to build the door, open it wide, and invite the world in” She said. On 9 October 2025, the Northern Cape took a decisive step toward economic transformation. MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Ms Venus Blennies-Magage, delivered the Strategic Direction during the Department of Economic Development and Tourism’s Strategic Planning Session, calling on all stakeholders to act with unity, purpose, and boldness in unlocking the province’s economic potential.
