In partnership with the National Department of Tourism, the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism proudly concluded a comprehensive training session on Employee Health and Safety in Kimberley. This vital workshop brought together a diverse group of tourism stakeholders, all united by the shared objective of fostering safe and healthy environments for employees and visitors alike.
The workshop addressed critical aspects of workplace safety in the tourism sector, focusing on four primary goals. Participants were educated on the significance of occupational health and safety as a cornerstone for creating secure working environments. This knowledge aims to empower stakeholders to prioritise safety in their day-to-day operations.
The training taught attendees about legal and industry-specific health and safety regulations. Tourism businesses can mitigate risks, protect employees, and avoid costly penalties by ensuring compliance. Tools and strategies for identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards were shared during the sessions. This practical approach enables tourism operators to address potential operational risks proactively.
Participants were encouraged to adopt proactive measures safeguarding employee well-being while ensuring their businesses' long-term sustainability. A resilient workforce is essential for maintaining Northern Cape’s competitive edge as a tourism destination.
This training underscores the Department’s unwavering commitment to upholding excellence and safety within the tourism sector. Empowering stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to prioritise health and safety, the Northern Cape continues solidifying its reputation as a destination that values its workforce and visitors. “Creating safe, healthy environments is not just a compliance requirement; it’s an investment in our tourism sector’s resilience and growth,” said a department representative during the closing ceremony.
The Department encourages all tourism stakeholders to prioritise employee health and safety as core operational values. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more sustainable tourism industry in the Northern Cape.
