{"id":1973,"date":"2024-06-06T10:06:41","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T10:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/2024\/06\/06\/daerl-doh-host-health-and-nutrition-workshop-in-platfontein\/"},"modified":"2024-06-06T10:06:41","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T10:06:41","slug":"daerl-doh-host-health-and-nutrition-workshop-in-platfontein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/2024\/06\/06\/daerl-doh-host-health-and-nutrition-workshop-in-platfontein\/","title":{"rendered":"DAERL &#038; DOH host health and nutrition workshop in Platfontein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>05 June 2024<\/p>\n<p>TODAY |The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform (DAERL)join hands with the Department of Health in Platfontein, Northern Cape to host a successful health &amp; nutrition workshop.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A great turnout of young and old community members who were capacitated on the importance of food gardens and a healthy diet.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop focused on aspects such as health and nutrition, facilitated by Dietician from the Department of Health, Mrs Nadia Potgieter while officials from DAERL tackled vegetable production.<\/p>\n<p>DAERL\u2019s Extension Practitioner, Ms Tsholofelo Tongwane conducted a situation analysis on the community which identified a need for food security as many of these households rely on government grants to sustain their livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Tongwane and the Platfontein community further planted spinach,onion,carrots and beetroot at the Platfontein Clinic.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of vegetable gardens at household levels can help vulnerable families access food,promote a better diet and improve their health.
