{"id":1438,"date":"2016-11-08T08:21:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T08:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/2016\/11\/08\/meat-industry-join-heads-to-strengthen-and-deliberate-on-legislative-relationship\/"},"modified":"2016-11-08T08:21:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-08T08:21:00","slug":"meat-industry-join-heads-to-strengthen-and-deliberate-on-legislative-relationship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/2016\/11\/08\/meat-industry-join-heads-to-strengthen-and-deliberate-on-legislative-relationship\/","title":{"rendered":"Meat Industry Join Heads to Strengthen and Deliberate on Legislative Relationship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-1437\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/11\/Meat-Safety-Workshop.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"left\" width=\"366\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/11\/Meat-Safety-Workshop.jpg 366w, https:\/\/www.northerncape.gov.za\/daerl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/11\/Meat-Safety-Workshop-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/>The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development\u2019s Veterinary Public Health, together with one of the Meat Inspection Service Provider &#8211; the Agency for Food Safety- held a workshop recently to deliberate and strengthen Legislative relationship In Williston in the Namakwa District.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the workshop was amongst others to;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outline roles and responsibilities as envisaged in the Meat Safety Act (40 of 2000) between Veterinary Public Health (VPH), Meat Inspection service providers and the abattoir owners.<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen relations with regard to collective approach to compliance to Meat Safety Act (40 of 2000).Ensure that communication channels are open.<\/li>\n<li>Create conducive environment for industry growth within the province.<\/li>\n<li>Fast track the Independent Meat Inspection process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Department\u2019s Veterinary Public Health (VPH) uses such workshop interactions as a significant tool in measuring the impact of its services rendered to abattoirs within the province. <\/p>\n<p>The workshop was also used as a platform to deliberate on issues such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Common pathology in Karoo lamb.<\/li>\n<li>Parasite trends in Red Meat Livestock.<\/li>\n<li>Animal Welfare at slaughter houses.<\/li>\n<li>Feedback on Meat Safety in the Northern Cape abattoirs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>About 40 abattoir Inspectorates from three district municipalities (ZF Mgcawu , Pixley ka Seme and Namakwa) attended the workshop. VPH also took the opportunity to address compliance challenges identified during Hygiene Assessment Audits carried out by VPH inspectors at different abattoirs within the province.
