The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, will tomorrow launch a youth skills development programme aimed at poverty alleviation and potential employment creation. This comes after a recent announcement in the State of the Province Address that this year the Provincial Administration will focus extensively on youth development to provide young people with skills that will assist them to secure employment and establish their small businesses. This focus comes after  a Youth Summit held in June last year where a need was identified for skills development and upliftment by means of a targeted accredited skills development initiatives.

This programme will see a total of 700 beneficiaries from across the Province and mostly from rural backgrounds being provided with accredited skills training that is relevant to their local area skills demand. These learners will be provided with 3 months training on portable skills in the following programmes:

1)  New Venture Creation and Business Management
2)  Portable Hardskills
3)  Personal Wellness and Health training
4)  Early Child Development
5)  Nature Conservation

In attendance will be Provincial MECs, local mayors, youth stakeholders and beneficiaries of the programme. There will also be career exhibitions from public and private sector stakeholders that will be accessed by the youth.
