Premier Hazel Jenkins accompanied by MEC Alvin Botes visiting old age homes in Kimberley and Galeshewe as part of the build up celebrating the International Day of Older persons and the launch of Social Development Month tomorrow on the 1 October 2009.

This year, the month will ensure heightened focus on fighting poverty guided by the theme: Working Together We Can Do More To Intensify the War Against Poverty. Several activities and milestones will highlight programmes of the Department of Social Development in the form of events, outreach programmes and community meetings throughout the Province.

This engagement is part of Governments commitment to all its citizens including the elderly in ensuring a better life for all. The elderly are an asset to society and can contribute significantly to the development process.

At these visits the Premier and MEC Botes will honour two elderly celebrating their 102nd and 83rd birthdays respectively. Mrs Robertse who resides at Acacia and Mrs Linbrecht who resides at Stillerwe? will be presented gifts to further enjoy the celebrations.

The visits includes the following Homes:

  • Acasia Retirement Home Centre ( Hadison Park)
  • Stillerwe? (Kestellhof)
  • Ons Huis (Herlear)
  • Resthaven (Florianville) and
  • GAASCA (Galeshewe)
